How Does ADS-B Work?
Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast equipment uses satellite communication to determine an aircraft's position. With ADS-B tracker equipment, the aircraft will automatically communicate with satellites to broadcast information to air traffic control towers to enable the aircraft to be tracked. ADS-B equipment will also transmit aircraft identification information, altitude and speed.
What Are ADS-B In and Out Modules?
ADS-B transponder equipment is made from two modules — an "in" and an "out."
- ADS-B Out is the more important of the two and is responsible for sending information out to ATC towers.
- ADS-B In is used to receive information and ensure operators know about the weather and air traffic position.
